Ghisallo Pass Bellagio Como

Ghisallo Pass Bellagio Como

Worshipped by professional and amateur cyclists alike, the small church of Santa Maria del Ghisallo is the shrine of the patroness of all who go by bicycle and was built in medieval times on the site of a Marian apparition. Officially consecrated by Pope Pius XII in 1948, the climb to it is very often included in professional cycling stage runs, such as the Giro d’Italia (Tour of Italy).

The path most loved by all bicycle-goers is certainly that starting from Bellagio, the renowned village at the confluence of Lake Como and Lake Lecco, climbs up to the sanctuary, reaching after a difficult uphill the height of 754 m ASL, from where you can enjoy a spectacular view over most of the lake.
